City Car Share - is a membership-based service where people can enlist to use a car for a few hours a day. Successful programs throughout the United States are non-profit-based and cater to urban dwellers looking to forego owning a car or to give up a second one. PUP is currently developing a city car share for Indianapolis, and aims to launch a pilot study by early 2010.
All maintenance, gas, insurance, and online services are part of the car share membership fee, effectively eliminating many of the hastles of owning a car. If you live downtown and only use your car for airport pickups, day trips, or special shopping outings, car sharing is a more convenient and affordable option.
For information on other successful programs, check out the list below. A perk for travelers and business people - there is often membership reciprocity among these car share programs.
